ARE YOU CARING FOR YOUR RUBBER MATS PROPERLY?

POSTED IN: Anti-Fatigue Rubber Matting 12/01/2020

When employees are spending long shifts standing on their feet, there’s a higher chance of slips and falls or fatigue, leading to costly worker’s compensation claims.

To help fix this problem, many business owners choose to outfit their industrial or commercial facility with our high-quality Ortho Mat™ rubber floor mats at DACO. These popular products have non-slip and anti-fatigue properties to increase the comfort and productivity of your team.

If you want to make the most of your rubber floor mats, it will take a bit more than just laying them inside your workspace. It’s crucial to make sure you’re taking care of them the way you should be—but what exactly does that involve?

By following these easy tips, you can rest assured that your floor mats are well taken care of and guaranteed to last for years to come.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tip #1: Spray Them Off

While our rubber floor mats are resistant to damage from chemicals, such as acids and petroleum products, this doesn’t mean, however, they don’t need to be properly cleaned.

Using a water hose and industrial-strength cleaners, such as bleach, ammonia, or an acid-based cleaner, thoroughly spray off the mats to remove any lingering residue. These types of cleaning products will minimize the amount of scrubbing you need to do, but for hard-to-get-off substances, a deck brush can be used.

Hot water will do the best job at cleaning the mats and will dry faster. If you have smaller mats, you can even use a commercial kitchen washer to clean them.

Tip #2: Clean Your Mats At The End Of The Day

You might not be in the mood to clean your rubber floor mats at the end of the workday, but it’s the most beneficial time to do so. It not only reduces the amount of time substances have to dry onto the mats, but it also provides ample opportunity for them to dry out for the next day’s use.

Tip #3: Dry Your Rubber Floor Mats Outside

If at all possible, you should always AVOID laying wet mats back on the floor to dry—especially if your facility has polished floors. If you want to speed up the drying process, laying them outside in the sun is an ideal solution.

Ortho Mat™ even offers some products that feature grommets for easy hanging when they need to be dried.
