DIFFERENT TYPES OF PALLET RACKING SYSTEMS: PALLET FLOW RACKING

POSTED IN: Pallet Racking 08/17/2020

For business owners struggling with minimal square footage in their warehouse or facilities, maximizing the space they use is critical to the success of their company.

If you’re looking for space savings solutions, purchasing the right types of racking storage units and shelving should be a crucial part of your layout design plan. For many companies, the pallet flow racking products at DACO is an optimal solution. We’ll be discussing these in part 4 of our series on the benefit of pallet racking systems.

WHAT IS PALLET FLOW RACKING?

Pallet flow racking, otherwise known as gravity flow racks, are a common choice for many companies across several different industries. These pallet racking systems are constructed to use the natural force of gravity to move pallet loads into their correct picking position.

After a load has been placed onto the back end of the pallet flow racking system, it will be moved to a front-facing position via a channel of metal skate wheels and sloped beams. This allows for a “first-in-first-out” inventory system that’s popular amongst businesses with date-sensitive products.

Pallet flow racking systems are loaded using a back-to-back storage system. This allows for more pallet loads to be placed within a single pallet lane and reduces the need for multiple storage aisles. Depending on the design of your specific pallet racking system, you can place pallet loads approximately 20 pallets deep and several levels high.

Pallet flow racking is available with either full-width rollers that are beneficial for wood pallets, or skate wheels that work for most other pallet storage needs.

These types of pallet racking systems are most commonly used in the following ways:

  • Quickly Moving Products
  • Limited Number of SKUs
  • Full Case Load Picking
  • Limited Selectivity
  • Rotating Date-Sensitive Products & Materials

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PALLET FLOW RACKING SYSTEMS?

As with many other pallet racking systems, these products have proven themselves to be valuable to many business owners. At DACO, we’ve found that our customers are impressed with the full range of benefits that come from choosing pallet flow racking.

Not only do they minimize the amount of storage space needed by businesses, but they also provide easy access to high-turnover products and perishables. They can also accommodate full pallet loads, which can’t be said for many other types of commercial storage products.

What’s more than that, however, is that these sorts of pallet racking systems can also improve your facility’s overall productivity and decrease labor costs.
