IS SELECTIVE RACK RIGHT FOR YOUR APPLICATION

POSTED IN: Pallet Racking 03/29/2021

Are you aware of selective pallet racking or their benefits for various applications and businesses? There are many types of pallet racking systems, but selective pallet racking is the most common type of pallet racking system that is used in warehouses, retail businesses, and more. You can see this type of system utilized in major retail warehouses like Lowes, Home Depot, and Costco.

Businesses can run into a wide range of warehouse inventory issues, especially with storage. These highly selective rack systems allow workers to have easy, direct access to any pallet in the business’ storage, each with its own position, and no movement of other pallets is needed.

If you’ve been using the first in first out (FIFO) system and find that the system isn’t working right for your needs and applications, a selective rack system may be a great alternative. Selective racks are perfect for product lines with high differentiation (a large variety of products) and low turnover of each individual product.

BENEFITS OF SELECTIVE RACKING SYSTEMS

Though there are numerous benefits of selective pallet racking, there are a few that stand out more than others. Some of those benefits are:

  • Allows workers to have high selectivity with multiple access points
  • Quick, immediate access to every pallet load
  • Low overall cost
  • Able to be reconfigured as needed
  • Able to be used for different sizes and weights or pallet loads, as well as partial pallet loads
  • And more

As you can see, there are several benefits of adding a selective pallet racking system to your facility.

DESIGNING A SELECTIVE RACK SYSTEM

When designing and constructing a selective pallet rack system, many factors must be taken into hand. You’ll need to choose a location, determine the width of the aisles between your racks, determine the size of each bay, and figure out the right height for your product and storage needs.

The most common bay size is 96 inches wide by 44 inches deep. You can place selective pallet rack systems on a wall or in rows back-to-back, depending on various factors such as your load sizes and weight, forklift sizes and weight, and pallet jack sizes and weight. Of course, the structure will need to be safe and sound, keeping all workers and customers safe around it.

In selective racking systems, you can store cartons, full pallet loads, and partial pallet loads. They are constructed with uprights and beams with wire decking to prevent goods from falling through. Roll form selective pallet racking is a commonly used system made from cold roll-formed steel and boltless beam pin connectors, allowing for more flexibility and adaptability in your selective rack.

WE CAN HELP YOU DESIGN THE RIGHT SELECTIVE RACK FOR YOUR NEEDS

If your business has a high variation in product types with low turnover, your workers need easy, direct access to all pallets and products, which is made possible by selective racking systems.
