WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DRIVE-IN RACKING AND DRIVE-THRU RACKING?
While they sound a lot alike and work similarly, there is a significant difference between drive-in and drive-thru pallet racking systems.
Drive-In Racking
A drive-in racking system has a single entry and exit point. The pallets are loaded and retrieved from the same side, making this a “Last-In-First-Out” LIFO system. This inventory method is an ideal option for slow-moving products that don’t have expiration dates.
Drive-Thru Racking
Drive-thru racking is essentially the opposite of a drive-in racking system. These types of pallet racking systems use separate entry points for loading and retrieval. Although it’s important to note that each entry can be used for either operation.
Drive-thru pallet racks utilize a “First-In-First-Out” FIFO inventory management system making them an excellent choice for faster moving, perishable products.
