Hazard analysis and critical control points, otherwise known as HACCP, is a management system implemented to address food safety through the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and physical hazards within the various stages of food processing, from raw material production, to procurement and handling, to manufacturing and distribution to the final stage of consumption of the finished product. Within some industries such as meat, juices and seafood, HACCP programs are mandatory and are regulated by the USDA and FDA. While not mandatory in other markets such as cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, they are recognizing the benefits of implementing HACCP programs. Hygienic, color coded tools can aid in the process of complying with HACCP requirements by helping to designate a certain color for each critical zone, and allowing you to quickly and easily recognize which tools belong in each area, thus helping to contain the movement of contaminants between critical zones. These tools, including shovels, paddle scrapers, scoops, scrapers, squeegees, brushes and brooms, scrub pads, and buckets, are made in a variety of strong, bright and easily identifiable colors including green, blue, red, white, yellow, orange, purple and black.
Here are 7 reasons why hygienic, color coded tools are ideal for HACCP programs: 1) They help divide production into zones or tasks. 2) They minimize the risk of cross-contamination within various critical zones. 3) They allow for quick visual confirmation to ensure that the tools are in the correct area. 4) Save time and money by helping to prevent quality lapses before they happen. 5) Color coding eliminates all language barriers as they “visually” stand out. 6) Color coded wall brackets and shadow boards make it easy for employees to store the tools in the correct area. 7) Help with HACCP programs compliance.
